Mirrors

(Capo 3rd Fret, giving key of Eflat) C Down through the cities, G and down through the towns. Em Up through the streets D that gave rise to the songs. C Making up stories, G Em C pretending to write it all down. Safe in our towers, safe on our thrones Fearful of swindlers who trade fact for profit gazing through mirrors, pretending to write it all down F C G I'm just the voice that you hear at the moment F C G telling some stories I know. F C G Names have been changed, voices created; F G C pretending to write it all down. Life is a fable and life is a list. A growing collection of things you might miss, while you're gazing through mirrors, pretending to write it all down. So break through the mirror that's hung there for years, Carve your own path with your vision clear. Use your own pen, But don't waste it writing it down.

Discovery Itch

Am G Am Have you ever found yourself slowing down while you're crossing the road? Am G Am Headlights flashing as you're kicking up your heels till you're on to the kerb. F G C C/B Am An angry engine rev's and it disappears in to the night. F G Am I doubt they'd even see your face. F G C C/B I've got a friend who says he's self destructive, Am F G Am but he's still yo--u---ng and he's got time to kill. Have you ever found yourself mixing drinks when you know what it does? Sitting by yourself in a bar with no one saying not to. A few more coins then home and you stumble in to the dark. I doubt they'd even see you're gone. F G C C/B Am Oh, what I would give just for once to feel at ease. F G C C/B Am But my skin's gone red from the sores in my mind and I'm fighting at an itch that my fingers can't find, and if you ever feel like you want something else then take it, love, cause I know that I'm a mess.

The Bells

E G#m F# Do you hear the bells? Chiming out a song in a minor key, A F# G#m each note has been stole from a bad memory that I tried to forget A B but it came back to me like a good melody. So we sit in our churches that sell beer and wine, raising a glass to the passing of time. Everyone's here, except those I forget, but maybe their buried deep down in my head. Interlude : E (7th fret) E (c shape at 7th fret) A B It's hard to have faith, belief in a God looking down from above. On your knees by your bed, cast your mind back upon those taking their ride before their time was due; like some kind of a mistake. I remember the day I got a call from a friend, she was fighting out words but I knew what she meant. No one was there as the lights were turned out, the papers were signed. All was left was the doubt. C#m And you say that he's vengent, spiteful but kind. A B Each action is played as a way to remind us that C#m we're not here alone but there's light in my mind that the A B person lives on once the body is gone. E If the context is right then I'll see you again, G#m A B I'll hear you again and you'll hold me again. E And I'll pass through the churches that sell beer and wine, G#m F# A F# raising a glass to the passing of time. Until everyone's here, I'll order three more. G'm A B E(7th fret) And then. I won't have this guilt.

How to craft a life

G C G Em There's a tiny violin being played by the type of girl I used to date. Am C D And even though we never did I feel betrayed. We carved our circles long ago, like a fucked up chart of friends we know. I'm still trying to work out which segment I'm in. C G D G Take me away to a happier place, perhaps the days before I met your face. F# Em I've got an escape plan out of this scene: Em C D G I'll change my t-shirt out of this scene. We're all trying to craft a life somehow, so we keep our allegiences well hid till the timings right and we'll sever all our ties. We justify this two-faced stance with a backheeled glance cause at the end of the day, "she never did shit to me".

Despite the Blackout

(Capo 2nd Fret) D G It wasn't quite damascus when we shared the inclination that Em Am we didn't need validation from a voice on a different station. G Em I think we've seen the expiration of Jesus of the airwaves, Am AmSus9(???) D but I'm not offering Salvation. C G D Don't try to question why we do this, each answer given's just another turning point. Despite the blackout we'll get through this, and Em C D these simple songs will be our searchlights. These simple songs will light the way. Some throw money 'till it sticks and others lack initiative. They sell their souls to crooked theives who bastardise what I beleive. So, we're cutting out the puppet kings - the Judas' of the Indie Scene', but I'm still not offering salvation. Em C G Em D I'm not looking for a savior. Someone to cast their light my way.

When you're old

G There's times that you'll ask me: Em C What's on my mind? C While I'm staring at nothing, D G one box at a time. I'll answer you, "nothing" but it'll come with a smile. I'm just planning my next move and you'll find out in a while. There's princes and paupers and angels and theives. You're born as nothing and end up a mixture of these. So when the clock stops and they're bidding farewell: Don't leave out the worst cause it's part of your tale. C G D So, here's to the good times and here's to the bad. It levels the balance and shows what you had. If you've only felt love, you'll never feel pain C C/B Am and the love will grow so boring N.C D when you're old. There's times that you'll ask me "what's on my mind?". I'm just biding my time and you'll find out in a while.
