Edinburgh and Dundee gigs next week!

The last four gigs were a lot of fun for the band and I. We had a great time playing them and learnt a lot from them in their own little ways. Woody flies off to Florida next week for a holiday, and I move to Brooklyn the following week for three months. This means that RFPB is temporally on hiatus until at least November. We’ve written a bunch of new songs though (Luath St Stories being one that we’ve played at every show recently), and are planning a great wee EP to end the year.

Poster for August gigsBefore I head out to the states, I’m playing two solo shows in Edinburgh and Dundee with Oxygen Thief and Mark McCabe. Both are free entry and 18+, with doors at 8 pm. The line-up for these is fantastic and different, and so should be an amazing night.

Unfortunately, my gig with Larry and His Flask has been cancelled, but I’m told there’s a good chance of it being rescheduled for early next year.

One thing that I haven’t really mentioned on the blog is the RFPB bootleg collection. We’ve recorded our gigs for a while now, and in the absence of new studio recordings, we figured it would be fun to start making some of them public. There’s old songs, new songs, rare songs, and covers in them thar tapes. Check them out!

Gourock! Dundee! Glasgow! Paisley! Stadium Tour Prep!

The next couple of weeks are the busiest that the RFPB have been outside of touring. We have four gigs, spaced nicely by two days between each. This is all in preparation for when we’re touring stadiums and have to move a whole stage rig between venues. Yeah, that’s the reason.

Actually, the reason is simpler: we’ve decided to play as much as possible before I go off, never to be heard from again, in the states. First up, I return to Beatclub @ Cafe continental in Gourock (this time with the band in tow) for an acoustic gig on Thursday 18th.

Then, we turn up the volume to 12, tune the telecaster, bump up the bass, drum up the drums (?!?), with three electric gigs in Dundee at 20 Rocks on Sunday 21st, Glasgow at 13th Note on the 24th and then Paisley at Bungalow on Friday 26th. Full details here.

We’re even rehearsing a very special new cover for the set. A proper anthem that I’ve been looking to play with the band for ages now. The kind of song you’ll be thinking “why haven’t they done this before? why is my fist pumping? GOD THIS IS AMAZING!”. Any guesses?

Bring it on.

Larry and His Flask – Audio, Glasgow 15th August

Flyer for the Larry and His Flask show

Flyer for the Larry and His Flask show

I’ve been holding this under my hat for about a month now, bursting to tell people, and now since I have the flyers in my hand I’m able to! I’ll be supporting Larry and His Flask at Audio in Glasgow on the 15th of August.

It will be a solo show for me because Woody is off on his hollibags, but Dan might help out with Double Bass duties or something. Either way, it’s going to be very special. Three days later, I jump on a plane and head out to Manhattan for 3 months. I have a feeling I’ll be very hungover the following day.

Before that though, this Saturday, we’re supporting the wonderful band The Ukrainians at Nice’n'Sleazys. This is a full electric show from the three of us, and, yes, I’ll be playing my shiny new guitar that Dan and Woody handcrafted for me!

Details of all gigs are on the gigs page.
